Can a stranger really make a difference in the life of a child? At Genesis Youth Crisis Center, Inc., that is what our staff strived to do every day. We start by providing the simple things like a safe haven and then we begin to establish a relationship. We realize that the children that walk through our doors are in a crisis and we are the first step to establishing calm and order in their lives. We never intend to take the place of family, but instead provide an ear to listen, a shelter from the storm and, most importantly, a shoulder to lean on.
When a child experiences crisis they often do not have the coping skills to deal with difficulty in a healthy manner. Genesis takes pride in being able to take this crisis and turn it into an opportunity. Teaching a child how to deal with crisis is what we do best. Our goal is to provide necessary outlets to not only deal with the current crisis, but with future challenges as well.
What is in a child’s best interest? That question frames the work we do on a daily basis. At Genesis we are flexible in creating programs that are child focused and success driven. As we move forward in the 21st century and continue to expand our services, we will always focus on what is best for the children we serve.
The challenges in dealing with children in crisis are great. The rewards are greater. Knowing I have made a difference in the life of a child gives me an overwhelming sense of joy. It is a joy that money cannot buy and I am thankful everyday that I have the opportunity to be a part of an organization full of hardworking staff that truly put children first in everything they do.
